How we write our exam guides

Every guide on this site carries the byline Oakspine Editorial Team. This page explains what stands behind that name: how a guide is planned, written, checked and corrected.

Where a guide starts

Each exam's guides are planned from its official syllabus and the latest notification of the body that conducts it: UPSC, the State Public Service Commissions, SSC, the Railway Recruitment Boards, IBPS, SBI, RBI, LIC, NTA, the CLAT Consortium, the IIMs and CBSE. Topics are chosen so that, together, they cover every line of the syllabus, subject by subject.

How it is written

We use research and writing tools, including AI tools, to draft guides. Every published guide is then held to the same standards:

  • Official sources first. Exam patterns, marks, eligibility and dates are checked against the official notification. Where these change from year to year, the guide says so and points you to the conducting body's website.
  • Facts that can change are flagged. Scheme amounts, counts, rankings and "latest" records carry a Fact check note or an "as of" date instead of being stated as permanent.
  • No invented numbers. We do not publish made-up statistics, topper stories, quotes or claims about how many questions came from a topic.
  • Every example is solved. Worked examples and practice answers are re-solved before publishing. Puzzles are checked to have exactly one answer.
  • Written to teach. Each guide explains why a topic matters in the exam, teaches the concept, works through examples, lists common mistakes and ends with practice and a revision checklist.

Expert review

Where an officer, teacher or subject expert has reviewed a guide, their name appears under the title as Reviewed by. Our books are written by serving and former officers; the guides are the free, open part of that work.

We are independent

Oakspine Press is a publisher. We are not connected to UPSC, any State PSC, SSC, RRB, IBPS, SBI, RBI, LIC, NTA or any other exam body. Always treat the official notification as final.

Corrections

If you find a mistake, write to hello@oakspinepress.com with the guide's link and what is wrong. We check every report and correct confirmed errors promptly. A corrected guide shows its updated date.
