About the MPPSC exam

The MPPSC State Service Examination, conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission from Indore, recruits Deputy Collectors, Deputy Superintendents of Police and officers for many state departments. It is for graduates, and it rewards candidates who know Madhya Pradesh well: Bhimbetka and Sanchi, the Paramaras and the Holkars, the Narmada and the tiger reserves, the state's tribes and its schemes.

Prelims has two objective papers of 100 questions each: General Studies, which decides who reaches Mains, and a qualifying General Aptitude paper. Reports for 2026 describe three marks per question and a new one-mark penalty for wrong answers, but sources disagree, so read the notification. Mains has six descriptive papers and no optional: four GS papers, including a GS IV on philosophy, psychology and public administration, plus General Hindi and Grammar and a Hindi Essay and Draft Writing paper. Mains and the interview decide merit, and because sources give different totals, check the latest notification.

Start with “Start here”: the pattern, the syllabus, Prelims and Paper II, the Mains plan and answer writing. Then go subject by subject, adding an MP layer to every national topic. Practise very short, short and long answers, and write in Hindi regularly, because two of the six Mains papers test it.

  1. 1The MPPSC State Service exam, stage by stageThe Madhya Pradesh State Service Examination recruits Deputy Collectors, DSPs and officers for dozens of other services. It has a two-paper Prelims, six descriptive Mains papers — including a full paper on philosophy, psychology and public administration and two Hindi papers — and an interview. How each stage works, what has changed recently, and what it means for your preparation.
  2. 2Reading the MPPSC syllabusThe MPPSC syllabus spans India and Madhya Pradesh across history, geography, polity, economy, science and current affairs — and adds a paper on philosophy, psychology and public administration and two Hindi papers. How to read it line by line, find the MP core, spot the overlaps between Prelims and Mains, and turn it into a plan you can finish.
  3. 3MPPSC Prelims: strategy for GS Paper IMPPSC Prelims ranks you on GS Paper I alone — 100 questions in two hours, with a strong Madhya Pradesh component and, reportedly from 2026, negative marking. How to cover the syllabus, master MP GK, handle negative marking, use mock tests well, and walk into the exam hall with a plan.
  4. 4MPPSC Paper II (General Aptitude): clearing it safelyMPPSC Prelims Paper II — the General Aptitude Test — is only qualifying, but strong candidates fail it every year. It tests comprehension (including in Hindi), reasoning, numeracy, data interpretation and decision-making. What it covers, how to diagnose where you stand, how to prepare by section, and how to attempt it so that qualifying is never in doubt.
  5. 5MPPSC Mains: six papers, one planFour General Studies papers and two Hindi papers, all compulsory, all counting for merit. The MPPSC Mains rewards balance — a candidate strong in history but weak in GS IV or Hindi will lose to one who is solid everywhere. How to divide your time, where the MP layer fits, how to handle GS IV's philosophy and psychology, and how to prepare for the Hindi papers.
  6. 6Answer writing for MPPSC MainsMPPSC Mains GS papers mix very short, short and long answers — a two-line definition, a compact paragraph, a structured analysis. Each needs a different skill. How to read the question, plan quickly, write each type of answer, add MP examples, manage time and practise — with worked examples from MP history, geography and governance.
  7. 7A 12-month plan for MPPSCA realistic twelve-month plan for the MPPSC State Service exam that builds national GS and the MP layer together, starts GS IV and the Hindi papers early, begins answer writing well before Prelims, and leaves time for revision and rest — with phase goals, a weekly timetable, checkpoints and advice for working aspirants.
  8. 8MP current affairs: what to trackMadhya Pradesh current affairs appear in MPPSC Prelims every year and give Mains answers their freshness — new districts, tiger reserves and cheetahs, the budget, investor summits, welfare schemes, awards and appointments. What to track, where to find reliable information, how to make five-line notes, and how to link news to the static syllabus.

MPPSC guides in Hindi — the same content as the English guides, for Hindi-medium aspirants.
